Autumn and winter months present a lot of harsh conditions for your car – ice, road salt, sleet and snow, to name but a few, so it is essential your car is protected. As temperatures begin to plummet and we wake up to ice on the screen, frozen locks and doors, the last thing on our minds is cleaning the car.

But, while washing your car with frost bitten fingers and a bright red dripping nose is not the most pleasant experience, we have some bad news, it needs to be done – but not more than every fortnight, especially if your car is already protected with one of our coatings.

Salt is known for being corrosive, especially to a car’s paintwork. The salt, slush and dirt will build up quickly on an unprotected car. If left unwashed, this can permanently damage the surface of your car, and can even cause rusting – leading to mechanical problems on the underside.

If your car is not protected, now is the ideal time, we have a number of products that can help:

Our G1 ClearVision Smart Glass has excellent durability – staying on the glass for up to 2 years. The hydrophobic function improves wet weather visibility making driving safer and reducing eye strain. Using G1 will also help your car windows demist a lot quicker and prevent ice from freezing on the surface – you can say goodbye to harsh scraping and cold hands.

Even if your car is not treated with one of our paint protection products, that does not mean you should rule out EXO during the cold spells. EXO Ultra Durable Hybrid Coating is our ultimate hydrophobic surface protector – it simply out-beads any other products on the market. In the winter get EXO applied to your paintwork and make grime easy to remove, snow simply slide from the surface, and muddy splashes bead off. EXO will last on a car for up to 24 months.

Of our more durable products, C5 Wheel Armour is a must-have for winter wheels. Apply C5 to your alloys or standard wheels to make them much easier to maintain. C5 will chemically bond to the wheels of the car, which will provide excellent stain and contaminant resistance making them easy to clean and maintain on mucky, slushy roads.

C2 Liquid Crystal is a great all-rounder for winter protection. Simply spray the coating onto paintwork and wheels and buff off the residue for instant, effective protection from UV and dirt. For the ultimate performance you can layer C2 to provide maximum protection from the snow, ice and salt on the winter roads.

It is an obvious call when washing the car during cold conditions that you should hold out for warmer days as it can be a pain when trying to get a car to dry in freezing temperatures. However, if the car is covered and temperatures do not appear to be rising, then a top tip is to take the car for a short drive and have all the heaters on for a good 10 minutes – this should prevent the water from freezing during washing.

You can download the pdf version of our wash guide and follow the step-by-step instructions for the best wash results – this guide applies in the winter and all year round. However, in the winter, if you do not already do it, you should concentrate on the prewashing of your car. It may also be an option, if it is not something you normally do, to wash your car using warm water. And you may also want to invest in a pair of waterproof winter gloves!
